About the Faculty

The Faculty of Health Sciences of Universitas Batam (FIK UNIBA) is one of the faculties serving as a Study Program Management Unit (UPPS) at Universitas Batam, with a focus on education in the health field. Universitas Batam itself was established in 2000 based on Decree of the Minister of National Education Number 58/D/O/2000. FIK UNIBA offers leading study programs in the health field, including Nursing and the Nursing Professional Program, Midwifery and the Midwifery Professional Program, Psychology, and Pharmacy, supporting the vision of producing competitive health professionals. Universitas Batam was initially established under the name Universitas Abulyatama before changing its name in 2001 through Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 242/D/O/2001.

The Faculty of Health Sciences was developed as part of the university's expansion, which has included an integrated health laboratory in place since 2009 in the Riau Islands. The FIK UNIBA strategic plan document outlines its vision, mission, and strategies for achievement through 2027, including curriculum workshops and institutional partnerships.

Vision

To become a provider of higher education with National and International standards in systems, programs, activities, resources, and graduates who are competent, professional, outstanding, innovative, and globally competitive healthcare professionals who are equipped to respond to the continuous advancement of science, technology, and the arts (IPTEKS) by 2030

Mission

  1. To provide education and teaching through the implementation of an Outcome-Based Curriculum using the SPICES approach (Student-Centered Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Integrated, Community-Based Education, Elective, and Systematic), in accordance with national and international standards in health sciences with a focus on community health, complementary healthcare, clinical practice, and the healthcare industry.

  2. To conduct and advance science and technology through basic, developmental, and applied research in health sciences with a focus on community health, complementary healthcare, clinical practice, and the healthcare industry, with the aim of achieving recognition through publications at both the national and international levels.

  3. To undertake Community Service in the field of health sciences with a focus on community health, complementary healthcare, clinical practice, and the healthcare industry, in order to promote a healthy society.

  4. To strengthen and expand collaboration with national and international institutions in support of the sustainable development of the Faculty of Health Sciences' systems, academic programs, activities, and resources, with a focus on community health, complementary healthcare, clinical practice, and the healthcare industry.

Bachelor of Pharmacy

The Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program (S1 Pharmacy) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Batam, is a higher education program committed to producing graduates in pharmacy who are excellent, professional, ethical, and capable of adapting to developments in science and technology within the field of pharmacy. This study program represents Universitas Batam's contribution to improving the quality of healthcare services by providing competent and competitive human resources at both the national and international levels. The education delivered through the S1 Pharmacy Study Program is designed to provide comprehensive mastery of pharmaceutical science, covering pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry, clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, and pharmaceutical management and regulation. Through a curriculum that aligns with developments in science, workforce needs, and national competency standards, students are equipped with academic knowledge, laboratory skills, research capabilities, and the professional competencies required for pharmaceutical practice. The learning process is carried out in an integrated manner through lectures, laboratory practicums, research, scientific seminars, and community service activities. Supported by qualified faculty members, adequate laboratory facilities, and partnerships with various health institutions, pharmaceutical industries, pharmacies, hospitals, and related organizations, the S1 Pharmacy Study Program at Universitas Batam strives to create an academic environment conducive to the development of students' competencies. In addition to emphasizing mastery of knowledge and skills, the S1 Pharmacy Study Program also instills values of professionalism, integrity, responsibility, and concern for public health. Students are encouraged to develop critical and innovative thinking, with a problem-solving orientation in the field of pharmacy, enabling them to make a real contribution to improving the quality of life in society. As part of carrying out the Tridharma of Higher Education, the S1 Pharmacy Study Program actively develops research and community service activities focused on the utilization of natural resources, the development of health products, the rational use of medicines, and the improvement of public health. These activities serve as a means for students and faculty members to generate innovations that are beneficial and relevant to the needs of society. Driven by a spirit of quality, innovation, and community service, the S1 Pharmacy Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Batam, remains committed to becoming a center of pharmaceutical education that produces excellent, competitive graduates capable of meeting the challenges of healthcare developments in the global era.

Bachelor of Psychology

The Bachelor of Psychology Study Program at Universitas Batam is an undergraduate programme under the Faculty of Health Sciences that is committed to producing graduates who are intellectually capable, independent, ethical, culturally aware, and entrepreneurial, enabling them to compete at the regional, national, and international levels. Situated in the strategic environment of Batam City, a major industrial hub with a multicultural society, the Study Program is designed to address the growing demand for professionals who possess a sound understanding of human behaviour, organisational dynamics, mental health, education, and community empowerment.Through education, research, Community Service, the development of competencies in psychological assessment, counselling, and professional skills founded on ethical principles, graduates are prepared to pursue careers as assistant psychologists, human resource practitioners, psychology consultancy staff, counsellors, research assistants, training facilitators, psychological test administrators, and entrepreneurs in the field of human development.

Bachelor of Midwifery

The Midwifery Study Program was established in 2005, initially comprising the Diploma III (D3) in Midwifery and the Applied Bachelor (D4) in Midwifery programmes. In 2021, the programme was restructured into the Bachelor of Midwifery Study Program and the Midwife Professional Program. In 2024, the programme was awarded the "Excellent" accreditation status by the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) pursuant to Decree No. 0021/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Pro/I/2024. The Bachelor of Midwifery Study Program and the Midwife Professional Program have produced graduates who are employed throughout Indonesia in a wide range of professional settings, including as civil servant midwives in public hospitals and community health centres (Puskesmas), independent midwifery practitioners, hospital midwives, primary healthcare clinic midwives, members of the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), homecare midwives, and health influencers. In addition, graduates of Universitas Batam have established professional careers overseas, including in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia. Students undertake clinical education and professional practice at the Integrated Laboratory of Universitas Batam, RS Hj. Bunda Halimah (Universitas Batam Teaching Hospital), independent midwifery practices, and community health centres (Puskesmas). The academic staff of the Midwifery Study Program are certified professional lecturers recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, experienced midwifery practitioners, and graduates of reputable universities in Indonesia and abroad.

Bachelor of Nursing

The history of Universitas Batam began with the establishment of nursing education through the Griya Husada Batam Academy of Nursing, which was founded on 26 July 1996 under the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. HK.00.06.1.1.313. In 2006, the Academy was integrated into Universitas Batam as the Diploma III (D-III) in Nursing Study Program. Subsequently, in 2007, the Bachelor of Nursing Study Program was granted official operational approval under Decree No. 3226/D/T/2007. The Nursing Study Program has become an integral part of the historical development of Universitas Batam and has produced qualified nursing professionals for more than 27 years. In response to national regulations requiring graduates of undergraduate nursing programmes to complete professional nursing education, the Nursing Professional Program (Ners) received official operational approval on 12 June 2017 under Decree No. 315/KPT/I/2017.

Midwife Professional

Established in 2005, the Midwifery Study Program initially comprised the Diploma III (D3) in Midwifery and the Applied Bachelor (D4) in Midwifery programmes. In 2021, it was transformed into the Bachelor of Midwifery Study Program and the Midwife Professional Program, reflecting its commitment to strengthening professional midwifery education. In recognition of its educational quality, the programme received Excellent Accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) in 2024, pursuant to Decree No. 0021/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Pro/I/2024. The programme has produced highly competent midwives who serve across a broad spectrum of healthcare settings throughout Indonesia. Its graduates are employed as civil servant midwives in public hospitals and Community Health Centres (Puskesmas), independent midwifery practitioners, hospital and primary healthcare clinic midwives, as well as healthcare professionals within the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Graduates have also established careers in homecare services, health communication and advocacy, and have successfully pursued professional opportunities overseas, including in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia. To ensure graduates acquire comprehensive professional competencies, students undertake clinical and practical training at the Integrated Laboratory of Universitas Batam, RS Hj. Bunda Halimah, the University's teaching hospital, independent midwifery practices, and Community Health Centres (Puskesmas). The programme is delivered by professionally certified academic staff, experienced midwifery practitioners, and lecturers who have graduated from distinguished national and international universities, thereby ensuring that graduates are well prepared to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare profession.

Nurse Professional Program

The Nursing Professional Program (Ners) is a professional education programme designed to prepare Bachelor of Nursing graduates to become professional nurses with strong clinical competence, critical thinking abilities, effective communication skills, and high moral integrity in delivering nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities. In response to the rapid advancement of science, healthcare technology, and the increasing complexity of healthcare services, the Nursing Professional Program (Ners) serves as a platform for the development of professional competencies by integrating theoretical learning, clinical practice, research, and Community Service. Through an innovative student-centred learning approach, the programme is committed to producing graduates who are capable of delivering high-quality, safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care.
