Universitas Batam is widely recognized as one of the leading universities in the Riau Islands Province and has become a respected institution in Indonesia's higher education landscape. The University was officially established under the Decree of the Director General of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 58/D/O/2000 on 4 May 2000. Since then, it has continued to grow steadily in academic quality, institutional capacity, and public trust.

Today, Universitas Batam consists of five academic faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Health Sciences. These faculties offer a comprehensive range of academic programmes, including Bachelor's Degree Programmes, Professional Programmes, Master's Degree Programmes, and Doctoral Degree Programmes.

Universitas Batam's commitment to quality has been formally recognized through the "Very Good" Institutional Accreditation conferred by the Executive Board of the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) under Decree No. 1587/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/PT/X/2022. This distinction reflects the University's ongoing pursuit of academic excellence, institutional development, and continuous quality enhancement. In response to the changing landscape of higher education, Universitas Batam continues to strengthen strategic partnerships with the Business and Industrial Sectors (DUDI), government agencies, private enterprises, and other strategic partners at the local, regional, national, and international levels.

Universitas Batam is proud to offer several flagship academic programs, particularly the Doctoral Study Program in Human Resource Management and the Medical Doctor Study Program and Professional Medical Doctor Program, both of which have been awarded the "Excellent" Accreditation by the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes). In addition, the majority of the University's study programs have achieved accreditation ratings of Good, Very Good, and Excellent. These accomplishments have contributed significantly to the University's growing reputation and have resulted in a steady increase in student enrolment, particularly in programs that have demonstrated substantial improvements in accreditation status.

In support of its vision of becoming an internationally recognized University, Universitas Batam consistently organizes international scientific forums, including the International Conference of Economic and Management Science (ICEMS), the International Conference of Human Resource and Accounting (ICHRA), organized by the Doctoral Study Program in Human Resource Management, and the International Medical Seminar, which is regularly hosted by the Faculty of Medicine.

In alignment with the national higher education transformation initiated through the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, Universitas Batam has actively embraced experiential and student-centred learning by implementing a wide range of Independent Campus programmes. Through these initiatives, students have participated in nationally recognized programmes such as Student Exchange, Teaching Campus, Certified Internships, the Bangkit Program, and Certified Independent Study, enabling them to develop interdisciplinary competencies, professional experience, and practical skills beyond the traditional classroom environment. This commitment is further demonstrated by the appointment of several Universitas Batam’s lecturers as Merdeka Campus Ambassadors, reflecting the University's active contribution to the national higher education transformation agenda.

Universitas Batam has also achieved notable success in strengthening its research and innovation capacity. The University has consistently secured competitive Research Grants and Community Service Grants awarded by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, the University has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Matching Fund Kedaireka Program, reinforcing its commitment to collaborative innovation and meaningful partnerships among universities, industry, and government.

Strategically located in the heart of Batam City, Universitas Batam enjoys excellent accessibility, with close proximity to Hang Nadim International Airport and Batam Centre Ferry Terminal. The University is equipped with modern academic buildings, including the Integrated Health Laboratory, which has served as a model laboratory for health education since 2009. The laboratory is supported by comprehensive practical training facilities and the Grand Design: Mini Hospital concept, providing an authentic learning environment for health sciences education. Additional facilities include the Hj. Bunda Halimah Teaching Hospital, Rumengan Hall Auditorium, and Graha Bintang Hall, all of which support the University's academic, professional, and institutional activities. To further enhance the quality of teaching and learning, Universitas Batam provides a comprehensive range of supporting facilities, including a modern library, the UNIBA Language Centre, student dormitories, a guest house, a prayer room (musholla), a cafeteria, basketball, futsal, and volleyball courts, as well as various other facilities designed to support students' academic and extracurricular development.

The accomplishments of Universitas Batam students in both academic and non-academic fields continue to bring distinction to the University at regional, national, and international levels. Likewise, Universitas Batam alumni have established successful careers throughout Indonesia and have earned widespread recognition for their professionalism, competence, and meaningful contributions across diverse professional sectors.
