UNIVERSITAS BATAM STRENGTHENS RESEARCH COMPETENCY THROUGH RESEARCH METHODOLOGY SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP
BATAM – Universitas Batam (UNIBA), through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), held a two-day Research Methodology Seminar and Workshop on June 26–27, 2026, at the Universitas Batam Campus. The event carried the theme "Multidisciplinary Research Methodology Strategies for Strengthening Data Analysis and Scientific Publication." The activity was attended by lecturers, researchers, students, and participants from various universities across Indonesia.
The event featured highly competent national speakers in the fields of research methodology and data analysis, namely Prof. Dr. Sugiyono, M.Pd.; Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori, S.T.; and Dr. Sihar Tambun, S.E., M.Si., Ak.
The first day began with an opening address by the Rector of Universitas Batam, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M.Eng., IPU., ASEAN Eng., followed by remarks from the Chair of UNIBA's LPPM, Dr. Malahayati Rusli Bintang, BSc, MPH. On this occasion, university leadership expressed appreciation for the event as an effort to improve the quality of research, scientific publications, and the research competency of the academic community.
Following the opening, a mixed-methods research methodology workshop was held, guided by Dr. Sihar Tambun, S.E., M.Si., Ak. Participants received training on the use of NVivo and LISREL software.
On the second day, the seminar was opened by Vice Rector III of Universitas Batam, Dr. Mohamad Gita Indrawan, S.T., M.M., representing the Rector of Universitas Batam. In his remarks, he expressed support for strengthening researcher competencies and building a stronger research culture within the university environment.
The seminar featured three national speakers with expertise in research methodology and scientific publication. Prof. Dr. Sugiyono, M.Pd., presented material on quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and research and development (R&D) approaches. Dr. Sihar Tambun, S.E., M.Si., Ak., reviewed the application of quantitative research methods and data analysis. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori, S.T., discussed strategies for writing scientific articles for publication in reputable journals.
Through this seminar and workshop, Universitas Batam hopes to continue strengthening its research culture, improve the quality of research and scientific publications, and encourage innovations that contribute to the advancement of science and community development.
