PROMOTING INTELLECTUAL WORK PROTECTION, DGIP HOLDS COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION STRENGTHENING EVENT AT UNIBA

Batam, May 6, 2026 – The Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (DGIP) of the Indonesian Ministry of Law, together with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for Riau Islands, held an event themed "Strengthening Efforts to Improve Copyright and Related Rights Product Registration" on Wednesday (5/6/2026). The event took place at the LPPM Auditorium, 8th Floor, Universitas Batam.

In this event, Universitas Batam served as the facilitating host venue for the activity, which was attended by officials from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for Riau Islands, along with students and lecturers. The event aimed to enhance the academic community's understanding and awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection, particularly copyright and related rights.

The event was attended by the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for Riau Islands, Mr. Edison Manik, S.H., M.Si; Vice Rector II of Universitas Batam, Dr. Angelina Eleonora R., S.Kom., M.MSi; Vice Rector III of Universitas Batam, Dr. Mohammad Gita Indrawan, S.T., M.M.; Head of LPPM Universitas Batam, Dr. Malahayati Rusli Bintang, BSc., MPH; Deputy Head of LPPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuanita Sidabutar, S.T., M.Si.; Director of Strategy and Public Relations of Universitas Batam, Jihaan Carrisa Rumengan, BSc, MScBA; as well as deans and heads of study programs across Universitas Batam.

In his remarks, the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for Riau Islands, Mr. Edison Manik, S.H., M.Si, stated that copyright registration is an important step in providing legal certainty while also increasing the added value of a work, particularly amid the rapid development of technology and the creative industry.

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for Riau Islands also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting increased copyright registration in the Riau Islands region through various educational programs and collaborations with multiple stakeholders.

During the event, participants received a range of material on the importance of copyright protection and strengthening the creativity ecosystem within higher education institutions. The first session, titled "Transformation of the Creativity Ecosystem at Universitas Batam," was presented by Dr. R.A. Widyanti Diah Lestari, S.E., S.H., S.Pd., M.M. This was followed by a session on "Introduction to and Protection of Copyright Registration," presented by Ariyanti, S.H., M.H., Head of the Working Team for Copyright, Industrial Design, and Traditional Cultural Expression (KIK) Applications and Publications at DGIP.

The event continued with a session on "Technical Consultation on Copyright and Related Rights Product Registration through the POP HC System," presented by Dr. Novi Mirawanty, S.T., M.Ti, Secretary of the DGIP Copyright Application Team.

Through this event, it is hoped that participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting intellectual works and be encouraged to actively register copyrights and related rights products, in support of strengthening the innovation and creativity ecosystem within higher education institutions.
