DORONG PERLINDUNGAN KARYA INTELEKTUAL, DJKI GELAR PENGUATAN PENCATATAN HAK CIPTA DI UNIBA
Batam, May 6, 2026 – The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, in conjunction with the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, held an event themed "Strengthening the Framework for Improving the Registration of Copyright and Related Rights Products" on Wednesday (May 6, 2026). The event took place at the LPPM Auditorium on the 8th floor of Batam University.
Batam University served as the facilitator for the event, which was attended by staff from the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, students, and lecturers. This event aimed to increase the academic community's understanding and awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection, particularly copyright and related rights.
The event was attended by the Head of the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, Mr. Edison Manik, S.H., M.Si.; Vice Rector II of Batam University, Ms. Angelina Eleonora R., S.Kom., M.MSi; Vice Rector III of Batam University, Mr. Dr. Mohammad Gita Indrawan, ST., MM; and the Head of LPPM of Batam University, Ms. Dr. Present at the event were Dr. Malahayati Rusli Bintang, BSc., MPH.; the Deputy Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuanita Sidabutar, ST., MSi.; the Director of Strategy and Public Relations at Batam University, Ms. Jihaan Carrisa Rumengan, BSc, MScBA; and the deans and heads of study programs at Batam University.
The Head of the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, Mr. Edison Manik, S.H., M.Si., in his remarks stated that copyright registration is a crucial step in providing legal certainty while increasing the added value of works, especially amidst the rapid development of technology and the creative industry.
The Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law also affirmed its commitment to encouraging increased copyright registration in the Riau Islands region through various educational programs and collaborations with various parties.
During the event, participants received various materials on the importance of copyright protection and strengthening the creative ecosystem within higher education institutions. The first material, titled "Transformation of the Creativity Ecosystem at Batam University," was delivered by Dr. R.A. The session was led by Dr. Widyanti Diah Lestari, S.E., S.H., S.Pd., M.M. The session "Introduction to and Protection of Copyright Registration" was presented by Ms. Ariyanti, S.H., M.H., Head of the Copyright, Industrial Design, and Copyright Registration and Publication Working Team at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (DJKI).
The session then continued with a session "Technical Consultation on Copyright Registration and Related Rights Products through the POP HC System" delivered by Dr. Novi Mirawanty, S.T., M.Ti., Secretary of the DJKI Copyright Application Team.
This activity is expected to enhance participants' understanding of the importance of protecting intellectual works and encourage them to actively register copyrights and related rights products to support the strengthening of the innovation and creativity ecosystem within higher education institutions.
